U.S.A. CDL DMV CLASS A LICENSE

I just passed yesterday (Oct 30, 2007) my Commercial Drivers License (CDL or DMV Class A). It takes me a long time to get one because I am not born to be a truck driver.

Steps in getting this license:

1. You need to have a valid DMV Class C drivers license. And have a medical certificate from the doctor.

2. You need to pass the written examination. The test is divided into three(3) parts. The Air Brakes, General Knowledge and Combination.  You can try sample test in this link http://www.esampletest.com/dmv/index.html

3. You need to pass the tractor pre-trip in cabin inspection.  You need to demonstrate to the examiner that you know the parts and function inside the truck.

4. You need to pass the Air Brakes Test.  You should know how to test the air brake system.

5. You need to pass the Skill Test.  You should be good in straight backing, alley dock and parallel parking.

6. You need to pass the Walk Around Inspection. You have to check the parts outside of the trucks from top to wheels and front to back including the attached trailer.

7. You need to pass the Behind the Wheels Test. The examiner will bring you to the streets, highways, freeways, urban areas, uphill and downhills. It usually takes 40-60 minutes. If you don't have any major mistakes you will get your CDL class A license and you are now a truck (big rig) driver.
