Game Industry Impressive Statistics
-
Forrester Research forecasts that by 2005 video game consoles will be in
nearly 70 million American households.
-
Research firm IDC predicts that computer and video game sales will reach
an astonishing $16.9 billion by 2003, not including an estimated $1.1 billion
from online gaming revenues. Even if the actual number is only two-thirds
of the IDC estimate, it suggests that game industry software revenue will
soon leave the motion picture box office behind.
-
According to a recent survey conducted by the Interactive Digital Software
Association (IDSA), an incredible 60% of all Americans age 6 and older-or
about 145 million people-play computer and video games.
-
The same study found that the typical American family uses its console
or computer to play games for an average of 10-11 hours per week, and Internet
games are increasingly popular, with 24% of game players now playing games
online, up from 19% in the year 2000.
